Teaching English as a Foreign Language
English is truly one of the most dominant languages in today's world. Travel to any country, and if you're friendly enough, you'll meet an English-speaker on your first day. I have experienced this at first hand throughout my travels in France, Spain, Germany, Africa and other locations worldwide. My students take classes for different reasons. Some foresee a life of travel. Others learn English to enjoy better job opportunities. Many of my students simply want to learn the language in order to try something new.
My classes take place in person or online. I typically deal with one to two students per class (60-90 minutes), though I sometimes cater classes to groups of up to five (two hours).
Each one-hour class is divided into three elements: (1) conversation (20 minutes); (2) analysis of the student's written English (20 minutes); and (3) pronunciation and comprehension of an existing article/text (20 minutes), where the student reads the text aloud and I check that he/she understands it and pronounces words correctly.
Also, if a student requests it, I reduce/replace other elements of the class to explain a grammar topic that the student may struggle to understand.
The class can be tailored to focus on one element more than others if the student wishes. The time spent on each element can also be adjusted depending on the duration of the class.
